Early life and career[]
Plested was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, UK.[4] He was educated at Rickmansworth School,[5] and studied at Central Saint Martins in London.[6][7] After leaving school in 2012, he formed a band, Chasing Grace with his school friends and collaborated with record producer Naughty Boy. The band released their debut album Nowhere Near Old Enough in 2015. They were active until 2016.[4][8][9][10]
Plested started off by being a vocalist in the band Chasing Grace. He then transitioned to become a songwriter.[4] Plested made his first big hit in 2016 when he co-wrote the song "Touch" for Little Mix, which peaked at No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart.[11] In 2019, he co-wrote the song "Before You Go" for Lewis Capaldi,[4] and the song peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart[12] as well as on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40.[13]
As a singer, Plested released his debut album First & Foremost in 2018 on Atlantic Records.[14][15][16] Scott Harris wrote the song "Your Name" for the album.[17] Plested's song "Beautiful & Brutal" was featured in episode 16 of the 16th season of Grey's Anatomy.[18]
In 2020, Plested renewed his contract with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Jon Platt of Sony/ATV stated "Plested is a brilliant songwriter – his music has captured fans across the globe, and this is just the beginning for him. We're proud to continue this creative partnership and deliver the best opportunities for him and his music."[19][20]
