Poland was represented by the band Sixteen, with the song "To takie proste", at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 9 May in Birmingham. The song was chosen internally by broadcaster TVP.

Before Eurovision[]

Internal selection[]

TVP received 45 submissions for the internal selection. A five-member expert panel reviewed all the submissions, and "To takie proste" performed by Sixteen was ultimately selected by TVP as the Polish entrant for the 1998 contest.[citation needed]

Among the submissions were De Su, Kasia Stankiewicz and Mietek Szcześniak.

At Eurovision[]

On the night of the final Sixteen performed 7th in the running order, following Slovakia and preceding and preceding eventual contest winners Israel. Pre-contest "To takie proste" was rated as an amiable if unspectacular pop song, unlikely to inspire strong feelings either way and therefore equally unlikely to inspire a great many of the European public to pick up their telephones in the first full year of Eurovision televoting. This was indeed the case, as at the close of voting "To takie proste" had picked up only 19 points, placing Poland 17th of the 25 entries, only narrowly avoiding relegation from the 1999 contest.[1] The 12 points from the Polish televote were awarded to Belgium.[2]
