Poonch Medical College (Urdu: پونچھ طبی کالج) is a public medical college established in 2012,located in Trar Dewan, in suburban Rawalakot, Poonch District, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.[5] The college is affiliated with the University of Health Sciences Lahore,[6] and the Pakistan Medical Commission.[7] The college has two teaching hospitals: Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital in Rawalakot, and D.H.Q. Hospital in Hajira.[5][8]

History[]

Poonch medical college is also one of those Government medical colleges which came into existence to overcome the effects of natural disasters. The foundation stone of the institute was laid down in the year of 2012. The institute was inaugurated in the year of 2013 by the President of the state of AJK Mr. Haji Yaqoob. First batch of the institute also enrolled in the same year. First Session of 65 students enrolled on 28 January 2013 and graduated in 2018.[9]

Academics[]

Poonch Medical College offers a course for a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.[11] Its academic departments include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Community Medicine, Medical Education, Surgery & Allied, Radiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, Medicine & Allied, Gastroenterology, Psychiatry, Cardiology, Gynaecology and obstetrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Pediatrics.[4]

In 2017, the college was ranked first in merit among all affiliates of the University of Health Sciences Lahore in the MBBS exams.[12]

Campus[]

As of October 2019 Poonch Medical College lacks its own building and is currently using a facility belonging to a government run polytechnic institute.[1][13] College own two patch of lands of 115 Kanal and 512 Kanal in suburban of Rawalakot city.
