ProTV News[]
Știrile ProTV (English: ProTV News) is the most popular newscast in Romania, with 9.3 rating points and 25.1% of the television market share in the country. It is followed by over a million viewers internationally.[citation needed]
ProTV News won the "International Emmy Award News of 2008[4]" in September 2008.
Andreea Esca is the longest-standing newscaster in Romania. She began her career over 25 years ago, and has spent 23 years with ProTV.
Although the newscast is the most popular, it is usually regarded as sensationalistic by many media observers. The evening news is often accused of devoting much of time to topics related to violence, and offensive or excessive zeal. The newscast has also been criticized for airing reports which are considered as false or "invented" as real news. It has been criticized for excessive dramatization of some of its stories, and heavy continuing coverage of entertainment news, with a focus on ProTV presenters and programmes.[citation needed]
The early evening news, particularly when Monica Dascălu was presenter, has presented reports about murders, homicides or sexual abuses with little to no censorship. This has caused that particular broadcast to be mocked, in popular culture, as "the five o'clock news" (Știrile de la ora 5).[citation needed]
