Protected areas of Queensland

Queensland is the second largest state in Australia. It contains around 500 separate protected areas. In 2020, it was estimated a total of 14.2 million hectares or 8.25% of Queensland's landmass was protected.[1]

Marine protected areas within the Queensland jurisdiction consist of fish habitat areas declared under the Fisheries Act 1994 and marine parks declared under the Marine Parks Act 2004.[6][7][8]

The Queensland jurisdiction only included the following three marine parks as of 2016; the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is located within the Australian government's jurisdiction.[6]
