Ramasimhan (born Ali Akbar)[4] is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and lyricist who works in Malayalam cinema.[5][6][7][8] He directed more than 20 Malayalam movies, including Grama Panchayath, Bamboo Boys, Junior Mandrake, Kudumba Vaarthakal and Pai Brothers.[9][10][11][12][13]
In 2020, Ramasimhan announced a new movie to be produced through crowdfunding, titled 1921: Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare, based on the 1921 Malabar rebellion.[14][15] Ramasimhan received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director in the year 1988 for the movie Mamalakalkkappurathu.[3]
Personal life[]
Ramasimhan has contested in 2014 parliament elections from Koduvally constituency in the Aam Aadmi Party banner.[16] He contested in the election to the Kozhikode Corporation as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate.[17]
In 2015, Ramasimhan said that he was a victim of child sexual abuse, he was abused by an usthad (teacher) at his madrasa at Meenangadi, Wayanad when he was eight years old.[18][19]
In December 2021, Ramasimhan announced that he and his wife had decided to convert to Hinduism, and chose to be named as Ramasimhan.[1]
