Rezaul Karim Rehan (Bengali: রেজাউল করিম রেহান; born 6 September 1968) is a retired Bangladeshi professional footballer who played as a defender for the Bangladesh national football team during the late 80s and early 90s.[1] He started his footballing career with Muktijoddha Sangsad KC in the Dhaka League, which was the top-tier league in Bangladesh back then.[2][3][4]

International career[]

Bangladesh national team[]

Rehan was part of the Bangladesh national football team during the 1989 SA Games, 1988 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and also during the 1990 Asian Games.[5]

Contorversies[]

During the 1989 SA Games, Bangladesh took on India in the second match of the group-stages, they managed to take the lead early into the game thanks to Nurul Haque Manik. However, after a challenge from Rehan in the penalty box, Bangladesh conceded a late penalty and captain pushed the referee in anger. This led to his ban from national football and ended up to be his last match for the Bangladesh national football team.[6]

The year 1993 saw Bangladesh take part in the qualifying tournament for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The second game against Japan saw Bangladesh display a decent performance, the Japanese took the lead within 2 minutes and after great build up play from the Bangladesh team, Rizvi Karim Rumi equalized. Nonetheless, after two blunders from substitute keeper Sayeed Hassan Kanan and a red card handed out to Rehan, the game finished as a 4-1 defeat.[7] Rehan's national career soon ended the same year.
