Ridho Rahmadi, nicknamed "Edo", is leader of Ummah Party in Indonesia. Previously, he was an assistant professor of Faculty of Industrial Technology, Universitas Islam Indonesia. He is also the husband of Tasniem Fauzia Rais, daughter of Amien Rais.^[1] At age of 36 during the party declaration and appointment as the party leader, he is the youngest party leader in Indonesia.^[2]

Early life and education[]

Ridho Rahmadi was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He graduated from Department of Informatics Technology, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Universitas Islam Indonesia in 2008. He joined the faculty of his department in 2009. He obtained a master's degree in Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, in double degree program of Johannes Kepler University and Czech Technical University in 2012. In 2013, he joined Radboud University Nijmegen for continuing his PhD study.^[3] In 2019, he graduated from there as PhD in Data Science, after defending his dissertation titled Finding stable causal structures from clinical data under supervision of Prof. Dr. Tom Heskes and Dr. Perry Groot.^[4]

He married with Amien Rais daughter, Tasniem Fauzia Rais.

Researches[]

After his graduation, he initiated Data Science Program at his department.^[5] In 2018, he founded UII Center of Data Science and become its head.^[6]

Becoming Party Leader[]

On 29 April 2021, Ummah Party declared and he was appointed as its first leader. Prior his appointment, per national regulation, he submitted the resignation letter to his university on 27 April 2021.^[3] He was appointed by direct appointment during a meeting sometime prior the declaration. It was said that Amien Rais had nothing to do with the appointment and not using his influence over the party to made him as leader. He also claimed that his decision to lead the party is pure of any intention.^[7]

Soon after his appointment and announcement as party leader, Amien Rais' former party, National Mandate Party, criticized the decision, claiming that Amien Rais had turned into an oligarchist and practicing nepotism, something he fight against for in the past.^[7] Despite such allegations, he promised that all Ummah Party cadres had equal rights and opportunities to be part of the party structure, despite not having close connection with Amien Rais' family.^[8]^[9]
