RiverTV is a Canadian OTT internet television service owned by VMedia that launched on June 4, 2020.[1] RiverTV is a virtual multichannel video programming distributor (vMVPD),[a] primarily offering Canadian specialty channels and video on demand content.[3] RiverTV is the first Canadian-based vMVPD, and the second such service to launch in Canada after the U.S.-based FuboTV, though the latter provider offers a much more restricted sports-focused service in Canada compared to either RiverTV or its American service.

The service initially launched in a closed beta on May 4, 2020 before releasing publicly in June with a free 7-day trial offer for new subscribers.[4][5]

Programming[]

RiverTV currently features live and on demand channels from broadcasters such as Blue Ant Media (Cottage Life, Makeful, Smithsonian Channel (Canada), T+E), CBC/Radio-Canada (CBC Television, CBC News Network, Ici Radio-Canada Télé, Ici RDI), Channel Zero (CHCH, Rewind, Silver Screen Classics), Corus Entertainment (Global TV, Showcase, Teletoon, Treehouse TV, YTV, Adult Swim, History, History2, HGTV, Food Network), and Wildbrain (Family Channel, Family CHRGD, Family Jr.).

Additionally, the service carries several U.S.-imported channels, most not otherwise available on Canadian TV services, including Cheddar, Law & Crime, Newsmax, Newsy, Revolt, and Bloomberg Quicktake.[6] [7]

Add-ons offerings currently include Documentary Channel, ducktv, France 24, Hollywood Suite, Ici ARTV, Ici Explora, i24 News, Mezzo Live HD, Nick+, Planète+, Super Channel, TRT Arabi and TRT World.[8]

Availability[]

As of July 2020, RiverTV's content can be accessed through the service's apps for Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, and iOS devices within Canada.[9]
