Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (transl. Love story of Rocky and Rani) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Karan Johar and produced by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios.[1] The film stars Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. It will mark the onscreen reunion of Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan after 48 years, after having last worked together in Sholay (1975). It is scheduled to be theatrically released worldwide on 10 February 2023.[2][3]

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani was officially announced on 6 July 2021 on lead actor Ranveer Singh's birthday, and marks the return of producer Karan Johar to direction after 5 years; his last directorial was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016).[4]

Casting[]

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were selected to star as the titular protagonists Rocky and Rani, working together for the second time post Gully Boy (2019).[5] Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi joined the cast in July 2021.[6]

Filming[]

Principal photography commenced on 20 August 2021 in Mumbai, after which a song featuring Singh and Bhatt was filmed in Moscow, Russia in September 2021.[7] In October 2021, the second schedule of the film began in Delhi.[8]
