Liger is an upcoming Indian sports action film written and directed by Puri Jagannadh and jointly produced by Karan Johar, Charmme Kaur, Apoorva Mehta, Hiroo Yash Johar and Jagannadh under the banners of Dharma Productions and Puri Connects.[1] Shot in Telugu and Hindi language versions, the film stars Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday while Ramya Krishna plays a supporting role.[2] Mike Tyson is set to make his acting debut in the Indian film industry with this film.[3] The film is now confirmed to be released on 25 August 2022.[4]

Pre-production[]

Deverakonda, who plays a kickboxer with a stutter, underwent a dramatic physical transformation for his role and went to Thailand for martial arts training.[8] Janhvi Kapoor was the first choice to portray female lead, but due to date issues, she was replaced by Ananya Panday.[9] The film's score is composed by Mani Sharma.[10] Composer Tanishk Bagchi is also signed for the film.[11] In September 2021, boxer Mike Tyson was signed for a cameo appearance in the film,[7] and he completed his shooting in November 2021.[12]

Principal photography[]

Filming began on 20 January 2020 in Mumbai, when it tentatively titled as Fighter.[13] 40 days of shoot was completed when the production was halted in March 2020 due to Coronavirus lockdown in India.[14] The second schedule was shot in Hyderabad.[15] Deverakonda resumed shooting of the film on 15 September 2021 post COVID-19 pandemic.[16]

Release[]

The film will be simultaneously released in Telugu and Hindi along with the dubbed versions in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages.[17][18] It was initially scheduled to be released on November 2020, but the filming halt due to COVID-19 pandemic caused its postponement.[19] The next time, The film fixed its release date as 9 September 2021, but again postponed.[20] And Finally, The film is now confirmed to hit screens on 25 August 2022.[21][22]
