Rosaline is an upcoming American romantic comedy film directed by Karen Maine, from a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, and stars Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Kyle Allen, Bradley Whitford, and Minnie Driver.[1] It is based on the novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle, which, in turn, was inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

The film is schedule to be released in 2022 on Hulu in the United States, Disney+ via the Star content hub internationally and Star+ in Latin America.[2]

Premise[]

Rosaline is a comedic and revisionist take of Romeo and Juliet, as we see “the most famous love story ever told” through the eyes of Juliet's cousin Rosaline, a sharp but idealistic young woman—who happens to be Romeo's recent ex. What begins as an attempt to foil the famous romance and win back her guy becomes a journey of self-discovery as she ultimately works to help get the star-crossed lovers back together.

That same month it was announced that Kaitlyn Dever had been cast in the title role.[1] Later in June 2021, it was announced that Isabela Merced had been cast as Juliet.[3] In July 2021, Kyle Allen was cast as Romeo.[4] That same month, Bradley Whitford was cast.[5] In August, Minnie Driver signed on to play a take on The Nurse from the original story.[6]
