Masautso Nkhoma (born March 17, 1986) better known by his stage name Ruff Kid is a Zambian hip hop and Christian hip hop recording artist[4] and 2012 best international act winner at the Beffta Awards.[5] He debuted in 2000 with his single Wekatemwikwa. Ruff Kid is also the chief executive officer of his own label imprint, Kang'ono Records. He claims because of the rough childhood and suffering he went through, he decide to name himself Ruff Kid[6]a name that will always depict and remind him of his hard life as an adolescent.

Early life and Music career[]

Masautso Nkhoma was Born in 1986 Lusaka and grew up in Kitwe, in Cha cha cha township Kitwe. Ruff Kid was raised by his mother, Getrude Nkhoma, as a single parent. While in his third grade music of Tu-pac Shakur influenced him to get into rap. [4]Ruff Kid's music career started in 2000 when he released his first single "Wekatemwikwa". The song was an immediate success earning him the number 1 spot on the African international music charts on Channel O, on the Urban Massive show. Dream records released his first album "All 4 U". His second studio album Matured was later released under . In 2006 his third album Most Wanted was released. In 2007 Ruff kid won multiple awards namely the Born and Bred Award for Best Hip-hop video, CBC Music video Award, Radio Awards.[4]

2013–present[]

In 2014 Ruff Kid launched a controversial album The Naked Truth.[3] The album received a lot of criticism over the cover photo.[2] At the launch of his album he made dramatic entrance when he came out of a casket received a lot of mixed reactions from his fans but however he was defended by Petersen Zagaze saying that "A primitive mind is no place to get advice...." he went on say "Everyday you watch movies with people in coffins, some even acting as Satanists, presidents, bishops, killers, sex workers, pilots, ghosts etc and you don’t complain, call [them] names or conclude, You see Ruff Kid do a coffin stunt stage entrance you talk shallow mind talk. Why? Is it because it wasn’t Ukwa in a Nigerian movie or Nicolas Cage in the coffin?".[7]After the successful launch of The Naked Truth, Ruff Kid was quoted saying: “I feel amazed by how some people can be shallow-minded and go to the extent of saying things such as Illuminati."[7]
