Samarkand State Medical Institute (Uzbek: Samarqand davlat tibbiyot instituti) — medical is a higher educational institution in Uzbekistan, engaged in education and training of students, medical workers and scientists, as well as improving their qualifications.[1] The Institute is located in the city of Samarkand.

History[]

Samarkand State Medical Institute was founded in May 1930 at the initiative of the Council of People's Commissars of the Uzbek SSR

Institute during the World War II[]

On the basis of the Samarkand State Medical Institute (SamMI) in 1942–1944, the evacuated Leningrad Military Medical Academy and the Kuibyshev Military Medical Academy were located.

Structure of the institute[]

Faculties Samarkand State Medical Institute has ten faculties:[9]

  • General Medical Faculty, founded in 1930
  • Pediatric Faculty, founded in 1963
  • Faculty of Medical pedagogy, founded in 2005
  • Higher Nursing Faculty, founded in 2005
  • Faculty of Dentistry, founded in 2009
  • Faculty of Pharmacy, founded in 2020
  • International faculty of medical education, founded in 2020
  • Faculty of medical prevention, founded in 2020
  • Faculty of management of health and clinical psychology, founded in 2020
  • Faculty of advanced training and retraining of doctors, organized in 1981

Teaching staff[]

The Samarkand State Medical Institute has 66 departments and courses, where more than 540 scientists and teachers conduct scientific and pedagogical activities. Of these, 58 doctors of sciences, 42 professors, 177 candidates of sciences, 111 associate professors.

The educational process at the institute[]

Since 2005, a new phase had begun in the history of the institute. It was necessary to create decent conditions for a high-quality educational process and scientific activities of the teaching staff in order to significantly increase their impact. Electronic teaching materials are posted in all disciplines taught at the institute in Uzbek, Russian, and English languages. Also, a student scientific society (SSS) functions at all departments.[10]
