Dr. Seemin Jamali, also known as iron lady, bullet lady and bomb-proof lady among medical community, is a medical doctor, longest serving Grade 21 executive director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.[1] She is also recipient of numerous awards including the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2019[1] and the Women Achievement Awards.[2][3]

Early life and career[]

Dr Jamali is daughter of a civil servant, Ghulamullah Din Muhammad Memon (commonly known as GD Memon). She graduated from Nawabshah Medical College in 1986 and completed her house job from Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital (then known as Civil Hospital Karachi). She joined JPMC in 1988. In 1993, she did her Masters in Primary Healthcare Management (MPHM) from Thailand and later in 1995 became in-charge of JPMC’s emergency department. She did postdoctoral fellowship in Emergency Care from the United States of America[1] and was also awarded a scholarship for post-doctoral fellowship in public health policy and injury prevention at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA.[2] In 2010, Dr. Jamali was then in-charge of emergency department, and was present there, when a bomb blast occurred just outside emergency room.[4]

In 2020, Dr. Jamali was diagnosed with colon cancer[5] which she successfully defeated.[2]
