Father Serapion was reportedly born in the year 1709 with the name Girgis Henein Abdel-Messeih. He joined the monastery of the Coptic Orthodox Church at the age of twenty-six in 1735, and was given the monastic name Serapion. Father Serapion returned to his monastery in the year 1903 after he disappeared, reportedly for over 150 years. Less than a month after his return he died, reportedly at the age of 194 years old.
