The Serb List (Serbian: Српска листа / Srpska lista; Albanian: Lista Serbe) is a Serb minority political party in Kosovo.[a] It is currently the dominant Serb party in Kosovo politics, claiming all ten of Assembly seats reserved for the community. The party retains close links to the Government of Serbia, led by the populist SNS and President Aleksandar Vučić.[6][5]

History[]

The combined number of votes for the Serb List was 38,169 (5.30%) at the 2014 Kosovan parliamentary election. On 17 September 2014, the Serb List announced that they would join the government cabinet only if Vetëvendosje was not part of it.[7] Aleksandar Jablanović, the Minister for Returns and Communities in the Government of Kosovo, was dismissed on 3 February 2015, after the opposition demanded his dismissal after he called the group of ethnic Albanians who attacked Serb IDPs in Gjakova with stones on Christmas Eve "savages".[8] His statement contributed to the 2015 Kosovo protests.[9] The Serb List decided not to attend the next Kosovo assembly session.[10] Following the 2017 Kosovan parliamentary election, the Serb List agreed to form the Government of Kosovo led by Ramush Haradinaj of Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, allegedly under main condition that the Community of Serb Municipalities be established.[11]

  1. ^ Kosovo is the subject of a territorial dispute between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia. The Republic of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence on 17 February 2008. Serbia continues to claim it as a part of its own sovereign territory. The two governments began to normalise relations in 2013, as part of the 2013 Brussels Agreement. Kosovo is currently recognised as an independent state by 97 out of the 193 United Nations member states. In total, 112 UN member states have recognised Kosovo at some point, of which 15 states later withdrew their recognition.
