History[]

This educational institution was established in 1939. At that time it was known as Unit School. When the Cantonment Board was formed in 1951, the Dhaka Cantonment Board acquired the institution in 1952. This is the first educational institution in the cantonments of the country. After the great independence was achieved in 1971, the institution was named Shaheed Ramiz Uddin High School after the martyr Ramiz Uddin, Bir Bikrom, who was martyred in the war of liberation. The institution was upgraded to a college on 5th October 1997 and was renamed as Shaheed Ramiz Uddin High School. Science, humanities and business education branches were introduced in the higher secondary classes. The institution was renamed as Shaheed Ramiz Uddin College in 2002. Then name of the educational Institute is changed to Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College. With the permission of the National University, the college was upgraded to degree level from the academic year 2004-2005 and admission of students for BA, BSc and BSS (pass) courses started. In the meantime, initiative has been taken to introduce 06 subjects in the undergraduate (honors) course in the college.[citation needed]

In 29 July, 2018 two students from the college died in a road accident on Airport Road, Dhaka.[3] The incident impelled students to demand safer roads and stricter traffic laws, and the demonstrations rapidly spread throughout Bangladesh.[4][5]
