Birth and early life[]
Shahidul Islam was born on 15 March 1960 in Jhiltuli area of Faridpur. His ancestral home is in Lohagarh upazila of Narail district. His father Shamsul Haque Sardar. He received his degree in Hadith (Masters) from Newtown Madrasa in Karachi, Pakistan, followed by his degree in Mufti (Islamic Jurisprudence).
Political life[]
Shahidul Islam In 1988, he founded Al Markazul Islami and served as its founding president. He was a Member of the Majlis Shura of the Islami Oikya Jote and the senior Nayeb Amir of the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis.
He lost the Narail-2 constituency to Sheikh Hasina by 4,233 votes in the 8th parliamentary elections of 2001. When Sheikh Hasina left the seat, he won the 2002 by-election.[2][4]
