At the Brahmins Conference held in Kochi on June 2019, Professor of Vaishnavism, M. A. Venkatakrishnan from SASTRA University made a statement supporting eugenics where he compared humans to dogs and horses, and castes to breeds.[9] He conflated the concept of social equality with sameness.[9] He stated there are as many breeds of dogs as there are lower caste and upper caste in humans, as well as many breed of horses.[10] He also said that there is a difference between a home-bred Pomeranian dog and a hunting dog, just as there is a difference in humans.[11][12]

Festivals[]

The first edition of Kuruksastra was held on 2–3 March 2007.[13] The second edition of Kuruksastra was on 6–9 March 2008. The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), UK, has accredited 12 programmes of SASTRA Deemed University. With this, SASTRA has become the first university in India to have the maximum number of undergraduate programmes accredited across its two campuses (Thanjavur and Kumbakonam).[citation needed]

It started the tradition of hosting musical celebrities for a "Pro Nite" show with singers such as Shankar Mahadevan, Karthik, Mahathi, Pop Shalini, Stephen Devassy and Suchitra. It had over 1200 participants, making it one of the largest such festivals in the country.[14]
