Simon Oliver is a British-American comic book writer. He is most known for his original comic book series The Exterminators and FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics, published under the DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, as well as for being the writer on the Hellblazer volume launched as part of the DC Rebirth initiative.

Biography[]

Growing up in United Kingdom, Oliver read mostly European comics, moving towards some American comics such as Watchmen only in the late 80s. In early 90s, he lived in the Third World for five years, cut off from comics and popular culture in general. Around 2003, while living in Los Angeles and working mostly as a camera assistant, he decided to give writing a try. One of the things he wrote was The Exterminators, which was initially planned as a TV series. Once Oliver realized it was not network material, he took it to the comic book publisher he respected the most. The Exterminators began publishing as an ongoing monthly series under DC Comics' Vertigo imprint in January 2006.[1]

Oliver became the writer of Wildstorm's Gen¹³ in November 2007. As part of the Hellblazer 20th anniversary, he wrote a mini-series based on John Constantine's longest surviving friend titled Hellblazer Presents: Chas – The Knowledge.[2][3]

In 2013, Oliver teamed up with artist for an ongoing science fiction series titled Collider. After legal action over the title from an international comics publisher, Oliver and Vertigo changed the title to FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics.[4]
