Simon A. Sefzik (born December 21, 1999) is an American politician serving as a member of the Washington State Senate from the 42nd district. He assumed office on January 11, 2022.

Early life and education[]

Sefzik was born in Ferndale, Washington and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American politics and policy from Patrick Henry College.[1] Prior to attending Patrick Henry College, Simon was a four-time national forensics champion in the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association.[2]

Career[]

A member of the Republican Party, Sefzik served as an intern in the office of Congressman Ted Budd and in the White House Office.[3] Sefzik was hired as a full-time staffer in the White House Management Office in 2019 and served in the White House Office until January of 2020.

On January 11, 2022, after the death of Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen, Simon was selected by the Whatcom County Council to finish Senator Ericksen's term.[4] With his appointment, Sefzik became the youngest member of the Washington State Senate. [5]

In the Washington Senate, Sefzik is a member of the Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee, the Health & Long Term Care Committee, and the Housing & Local Government Committee. [6][7][8] Sefzik's policy focus areas are agriculture, industrial development, fiscal responsibility, sensible environmental regulation, and flood relief for Whatcom Country residents.[9]

On February 9, 2022, Sefzik announced his intent retain the seat in the 2022 election. [10][11]
