Tegan Joshua Anthony Chambers (born December 20, 1999), known professionally as Sleepy Hallow, is a Jamaican-born American rapper, singer and songwriter. Originally from Jamaica, Chambers grew up in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn alongside frequent collaborator Sheff G.[2][3]

In 2018, he had his first breakthrough viral single with "Flows", which also featured Sheff G.[4] In August 2020, his single "Deep End Freestyle" featuring Fousheé was certified platinum by the RIAA.[5] In August 2021, his single "2055" peaked at number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his highest-charting song. He is currently signed to Winners Circle Entertainment and RCA Records.[6]

Early life[]

As a child, he immigrated from Jamaica to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York City. Around the age of 12, he started to rap. His earliest musical influences were Biggie Smalls, J. Cole, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.[7]

Sleepy has stated that he was not in trouble too much and was a smart kid as he had a 2.9 GPA in high school, before he had a brief stint in a juvenile detention center at 15, which he says was a three-week sentence for cannabis. He explained, "Ever since that happened, I got more active in the streets, doing whatever with my guys. School I was declining but still got my diploma which is nice but with a 2.2 GPA. Getting locked up was rough as I had limited freedom but it was a blessing as now I'm rich than a bitch." Sleepy is a member of the Eight Tray Gangsta Crips, which is the same set as Sheff G, his best friend.[citation needed]

Career[]

He and Sheff G were signed to former NFL player, Junior Galette's music record label, Nula Entertainment from 2017 to 2018.[8]

In 2019, he released his debut mixtape, Don't Sleep.[9]

In 2020, he released his second mixtape, Sleepy for President.[10][11] The mixtape featured the hit single "Deep End Freestyle" featuring Fousheé which peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 80 on June 20, 2020.[12] The single has over 85 million streams and was certified gold by RIAA in August 2020.[13][14]

In August 2020, Sleepy Hallow signed with Winners Circle Entertainment and RCA Records.[15] Sleepy Hallow and Sheff G released the single "Tip Toe", produced by Great John.[16]

In June 2021, he released his first studio album, Still Sleep?[17] The album includes the single, "2055", which was released alongside a video that sees an animated Sleepy Hallow in an alternate, futuristic universe.[17]
