The South Africa cricket team are scheduled to tour England from July to September 2022 to play three Test matches, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.[1] The Test matches will form part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship, and the ODI series will form part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.[2][better source needed] In addition to the matches against England, South Africa are also scheduled to play two T20I matches against the Ireland cricket team in Bristol.[3]
In November 2021, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Yorkshire County Cricket Club had been suspended from hosting international matches,[4] following the racism experienced by Azeem Rafiq.[5] Headingley was originally named as the venue for the third ODI.[6] In January 2022, the ECB set Yorkshire the deadline of spring 2022 to meet certain conditions to regain their international status for the match,[7] with the suspension being lifted the following month.[8]
