Southern Launch is an Australian space company providing infrastructure and logistics support for orbital and sub-orbital launches of satellites and space payloads.
Facilities[]
Southern Launch is developing two multi-user launch sites in South Australia:
- The Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) south of the regional city of Port Lincoln at the southern tip of Eyre Peninsula, an important area of coastal conservation, marine sanctuary and native vegetation protection. Pending an environmental review and comment from concerned local residents, site customers will be able to launch their rockets into orbit over the Great Australian Bight.
- The Koonibba Test Range is a suborbital rocket test facility under development near Koonibba in South Australia.[1]
Rockets[]
On 23 October 2019 Southern Launch made a joint announcement with Perigee Aerospace of South Korea about the launch of the Blue Whale 1 rocket from the Whalers Way facility.[2][3]
On 20 February 2020 Southern Launch signed a contract with Adelaide-based DEWC Systems for the provision of launch services using the T-Minus Engineering DART rocket.[4] The launch was carried out from the Koonibba Test Range on 19 September 2020.[5][6]
