Sue Cahill is an American politician and educator who is a member-elect of the Iowa House of Representatives for the 71st district. Elected in 2020, she will assume office on January 11, 2021.[1]

Early life and education[]

Cahill was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She earned a Master of Education from Graceland University.[2]

Career[]

Prior to her election, Cahill was a teacher in the Marshalltown Community School District and served as a member of the Marshalltown, Iowa City Council.[2] During the 2020 Iowa Democratic presidential caucuses, Cahill supported Pete Buttigieg.[3]

In the 2020 election, Cahill ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. She defeated Republican nominee Tony Reed in the November general election.[4]

Personal life[]

Cahill has six sons. Her husband, John, died of colon cancer in 2006.[5]
