Sun Prairie West High School (SPWHS) will be a high school in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, United States. It will be the second high school in the Sun Prairie Area School District, the other being Sun Prairie High School, which will be renamed Sun Prairie East High School. It is scheduled to open in time for the 2022–2023 school year.

History[]

On April 2, 2019, voters approved a $164 million loan for a second high school in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.[1] A similar 2006 referendum failed.[2]

On October 28, 2019, the second high school's name was revealed to be Sun Prairie West; correspondingly, what was known as Sun Prairie High School will be known as Sun Prairie East High School beginning in 2022.[3] On May 13, 2020, construction started on SPWHS.[4]

Athletics[]

SPWHS will compete in the Big Eight Conference for the majority of sports.[5] A plan submitted to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association by the Sun Prairie Area School District in June 2020 calls for SPWHS to compete in the large division of the Badger Conference for football; it is currently pending.[6]
