Sven Ludvig Alexander Odén (1887-1934) was a Swedish chemist and soil scientist. He was the professor of inorganic chemistry at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. His doctoral dissertation on sulfur colloids made him internationally renowned. In 1929, he was awarded the by The Swedish Chemical Society.
Life[]
Sven Oden was born on April 6, 1887, in Norrköping, Östergötland, Sweden.[1] From 1920-1925, he was the professor of inorganic chemistry at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.[2] In 1925, he was recruited as the director of the agrochemical department at the (Central Institute for the Agricultural Experimental System). He became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Forestry and Agriculture. After his dissertation on sulfur colloids, he became particularly interested in humus, and how these would be characterized.[3] He also designed scales and equipment for sedimentation analysis, which were to be used to determine the grain size distribution in soil.[4][5][6]
Sven Oden died on January 16, 1934.[7] He is buried in Uppsala's old cemetery.
