Szarek [ˈʂarɛk] (German: Sarken) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Ełk, within Ełk County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland.[1] It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) west of Ełk and 118 km (73 mi) east of the regional capital Olsztyn.

Before 1945 the area was part of Germany (East Prussia).

There is a fairly large family whose surname is associated with the name of the village, and the word szar means gray in Polish. It is unknown what the name "Szarek" really means.
