The T1 League is a Taiwanese men's professional basketball league founded in 2021.[1] It is the third professional basketball league in Taiwan after the Chinese Basketball Alliance (CBA) and the P. League+ (PLG). In the 2021-22 season, the T1 League consists of six teams, the Kaohsiung Aquas, the New Taipei CTBC DEA, the Taichung Wagor Suns, the Tainan TSG GhostHawks, the TaiwanBeer HeroBears, and the .

History[]

On May 10, 2021, Kuan Kuang-chung, the former National Basketball Association Taiwan region general manager, served as the sponsor of the new professional basketball league. And there were four corporations willing to join the league.[2] On May 24, the name of new league was announced as T1 League.[3] There were four teams came from Kaohsiung City, New Taipei City, Taichung City, and Taipei City applied to join the league.[4] On May 26, the Kaohsiung Aquas announced to join the T1 League.[5] On June 19, the Taichung Suns was established formally.[6] On July 30, the New Taipei CTBC DEA was established formally to be the new team of the T1 League.[7]

On August 6, the T1 League announced that Chien Wei-chuan was the commissioner of the league. Besides, the and Tainan team would join the league.[8] On August 9, the T1 League held the first draft. There were 58 players participated in the draft, and 17 players were chosen in 5 rounds.[9] On September 2, Taiwan Beer basketball team announced to join the league as the TaiwanBeer HeroBears.[10] On September 30, the name of Tainan team was announced as the Tainan TSG GhostHawks.[11] On November 25, the Taichung Suns changed the name to the Taichung Wagor Suns.[12]

Rules and Regulations[]

Games[]

Each quarter plays 12 minutes. Each game totally plays 48 minutes.[19]

Players[]

  • Each team can select 12 or 13 players to active roster in each match.[20]
  • Each team is able to register up to four general import players and two type-III players.[21]
  • Each team is able to select three general import players and one type-III player into active roster each match.[22]
  • The maximum of import players on the court is two.[22]
  • 10-Imports-In-4-Quarters Rule[22]
  • Type-III player eligibility:[23]

(3) Overseas students
(4) Overseas compatriots

Regular season[]

In the 2021–22 season, each team plays against another six times, three at home and three on the road, respectively. Each team plays 30 matches totally in regular season.[24]

Playoffs[]

  • Wild-card Series: Best-of-three series. The series are competed by teams finished regular season in the fourth place and fifth place. The fourth place will be awarded a one-win advantage. The winner can qualify the semi-final series.[25]
  • Semi-final Series: Best-of-five series. Matchup is decided by seeding in regular season. The first place will play against the winner of wild-card series. And the second place will play against the third place. The winners can qualify the final series.[25]

Finals[]

The winners of the semi-final series play the best-of-seven final series.[25]

  1. ^ In the 2021–22 season, the T1 League allowed players from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam to play as type-III players.[22]
