Talon-Talon

Talon-Talon is a barangay located to the southeast of Zamboanga City in the Philippines. 30% of the land is used for farming, 10% is salt bed and the remaining 60% is residential. The coastal area is surrounded by seaweed and fishponds farming.

History[]

For a long time, the location had no name. It was full of bushes, swamps and mangroves. When migrants from Luzon came to stay, they had to jump to reach across the swamps. The six families living here, when they were asked of their residence, would answer, "Talon talon" (jump-jump). This is how Talon-Talon received its name.[1]

It is bounded on the west by , on the east by , on the north by and on the south by .

Climate and topography[]

The whole area is a plain. The climate is relatively dry from February to April and wet for the rest of the year. Soil classifications are sandy and clay. There are salt beds along the shoreline at the southern part of the barangay.

In an estimate of the 2015 census, the population was 34,916 in 3,841 households.[1]

Religion[]

The majority of the Talon-Talon's population are adherents of Islam. Other significant religious minorities are Roman Catholics, Protestants and others.

Education[]

Talon-Talon has two public schools: the Talon-Talon Elementary School and the Talon-Talon National High School.

There are two private kindergartens: Talon-Talon Alliance Learning Center (renamed Alliance Kindergarten School of Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City, Inc.) and the Bethel Kindergarten School.

Health[]

The Talon-Talon Health Center is the barangay's central clinic. A home for the elderly is also situated on the boundary of Talon-Talon and Mampang, governed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Festivals and events[]

May 13–15 is considered the feast of Talon-Talon for its patron saint, San Isidro.
