Tavastian dialects are a group of Finnish dialects, and they have been in contact with many different Finnish dialects. The Tavastian dialects are characterized by the literally Finnish /d/ being replaced as /r/, the diphthongs uo, yö and ie in the Tavastian dialects are ua, yä and iä. In the Tavastian dialects, the sound /ŋk/, doesn't change with consonant gradiation: henki - henken (standard Finnish: henki - hengen).[1] The dialect spoken in the city of Tampere is part of the Tavastian dialects.[2]
