Thamizhum Saraswathiyum (lit. Thamizh and Saraswathi) is an Indian Tamil-language soap opera starring Deepak Dinkar and Nakshatra Nagesh.[1] It started airing from 12 July 2021 on Star Vijay and streams on Disney+Hotstar.[2][3]

Plot[]

The story starts with Tamizharasu fondly called Tamil a tenth dropout who discarded his education due to his family's financial crises. His family consists of seven, his mother and father named Kothai and Natarajan respectively who is the founder of Kothai Industries which is now managed by Tamil and Karthik (Tamil's younger brother) who has done MBA and his Sister Ragini who is studying MBBS, Abitha who works as a maid in their house, Kothai considers her as a member of their family and an orphan and Tamil's friend Namachivayam who lives with them. Kothai has an elder brother whose daughter agreed to marry Tamil but later refuses to marry him due to his studies and Kothai challenges her that she will look for a bride who has studied a lot more than her.

Where on the other hand it revolves around the family of Saraswati where her father Chokkalingam works as a principal in a school and hates Saraswati as she has been studying her grade 12 for about 8 years. Saraswathi's mother Vasuki is a teacher in a school and tries to pacify her. Saraswathi's paternal grandmother who supports her at times, her younger sister Kavya who is pursuing her B.Tech in a college tries to teach Saraswati but she doesn't understand, His brother Arun who is also pursuing his B.Tech in AI (Artificial Science) hates Saraswati for her studies. A disheartened Tamil after the incident of the rejected marriage proposal prays to God where Saraswati visits and pranks him saying that you will meet a girl thrice in rain and you will marry her after this a happy Tamil tells this to Namachivayam who doesn't believe him, and they visit the temple again where they meet and starts raining.

Then the story introduces Chandrakala, a former collector of Tamil Nadu who has one son and daughter called Vasundhara and Aditya. The following begins with the love story where Kothai's younger son Karthikeyan is in love with Vasundhara where they are eager to get married but then Chandrakala has some demands to get married but then Kothai declines the marriage because she feels that they are rich people but then with a fearless attitude. Meanwhile, Vasundhara tries to risk her life as the marriage gets a failure.

As the marriage gets accepted. Chandrakala starts demanding whereas Saraswati is caught cheating in the exam and where Chokhillingam changed his mind and said that Saraswati is not her daughter. Then Tamil comes and sought the problem by making Chokkalingam understand but then other members understood and where Chokkalingam didn't care at all. Now Tamil gets engaged to Suhashini and but then Kothai decided to make Tamil and Suhasini get married where Tamil realizes his love with Saraswathi. Will Tamil marry Suhasini or Saraswathi?

A few days later, Suhasini gets to know about Tamil's education status by Namachiyam and where she knows that Tamil loves Saraswathi. Chandrakala's daughter Vasundra and Karthik go to a Mahabalipuram for a party, where Chandrakala and Geeta plan so that to trap Karthik to make the wedding happen immediately. Chandrakala demands the Kothai family to make them get married where it was a shock. The marriage happens where it becomes a shock and wherein Saraswathi, she gets trapped where her parents find a bride guy named Shyam to marry but then he is a rogue who harms women and misogyny where Chokhillingam finds out that Tamizh and Namashivyam are bad people. Tamizh saves Saraswathi where Tamil was appreciated as a feast in Saraswathi's house and where he was praised.

Saraswathi visits the temple where Kothai admires her behavior when Minnal acts strangely to the poor person who was asking alms where Saraswati gives where Kothai feels she is reflecting her behavior and where Minnal said she studied MBA where Kothai blindly believed it where it made her happy. The next time while Karthik and Vasundra went to get clothes for their marriage and where Saraswathi was looking, Kothai invited them to their wedding. Meanwhile, Saraswathi encounters Chandrakala on her way to the hospital with her grandmother Meenakshi. The wedding begins where Chandrakala gets into plans, where Saraswathi and Tamil were drinking coffee, it spilled on Chandrakala where she made a huge scene and decided to plan to make Kothai send out of Saraswathi but then her plan failed.

Development[]

This is Vikatan Televistas debut series on Star Vijay which was supposed to premiere in May 2021 but was postponed due to lockdown while shootings were halted owing to Covid-19 pandemic in India.[6][7] The first promo was released on 24 June 2021.[8]


Casting[]

This serial marks director S. Kumaran and Vikatan Televistas' debut on Star Vijay.[5] This show has Deepak Dinkar and Nakshathra Nagesh in the protagonist role, Ramachandran, Meera Krishna, Mercy Leyal and Sushma Nair reprising their supportive roles and Rekha Krishnappa reprising her negative role.[citation needed]

Vikatan Tele vistas has been directing several hit serials on Sun TV for more than 20 years such as Kolangal (2003-2009), Thirumathi Selvam (2007-2013), Thendral (2009-2015), Devivamagal (2013-2018), and Nayaki (2018-2020). In 2020, they closed their alliance with Sun TV, and wherein early 2021, it was announced that a serial with Star Vijay would co-direct a new series with TV.
