Baakiyalakshmi is an Indian serial in Tamil television operating on Star Vijay. It premiered on 27 July 2020.^[1] This show is an official remake of Bengali Serial Sreemoyee which airs on Star Jalsha.^[2] It is also available on Disney+ Hotstar. It was scheduled to premiere on 16 March 2020, but due to COVID 19 lockdown, it was premiered on 27 July 2020.

Plot[]

Baakiyalakshmi and Gopinath are married and live in a joint-family. They have three children, Chezhiyan, Ezhil, and Iniya. Baakiyalakshmi is a soft-natured woman, who loves and is devoted to her family. Gopinath is not fond of her and wishes to settle with his ex-girlfriend, Radhika who is already married and has a child, Mayura. However, Radhika is not living with her husband and is trying to divorce him. Gopinath finally meets Radhika and starts visiting her house often. Baakiya does not know about her husband's affair. Raadhika does not know about Gopinath’s family. She befriends Baakiya and has a good relationship with her.

Afterwards, she learns that her elder son, Chezhiyan and his school friend Jennifer are in love. The families do not agree because Jennifer is a Christian. Jennifer's parents want to get her married in a church and Chezhiyan's family wants him to get married in a temple. After many obstacles, Baakiya helps them to get married, with the family blessings with a marriage in a church and in a temple.

After some months, Bakhiya realises that she is limited to household life because she uneducated. She decides to create her own identity. With the help of her younger son, Ezhilan, Radhika and Jennifer, Baakiya to start a business selling masala. This is opposed by Gopinath and her mother-in-law.

Things go smoothly, until her daughter, Iniya falls in love with Santhosh whose parents are government workers. Iniya, Santhosh and another friend skip their exams. This incident causes the school to expel Iniya. Gopinath uses this chance to stop Baakiya from working in her masala business. Baakiya goes to the school principal's house and pleads with him, after which the expulsion is reversed.

Ezhilan, who wishes to become a film director, participates in a short film festival and does not write the annual exam for engineering. For this, Gopinath often taunts Ezhilan. After sometime Ezhil finds that his father is having an affair with a woman, not knowing that she is his mother's friend Raadhika. He starts using this fact to blackmail his father. Frightened by this, Gopinath allow Baakiya to run the masala business.

After knowing this Rajesh starts to blackmail Gopinath, threatening to tell his family that he was having an affair for the last year. Gopinath reports the blackmail threat to the police. The police arrest Rajesh. Raadhika's reputation in her neighbourhood is affected by this. Feeling ashamed, Radhika plans to buy a new house. With the help of Baakiya and her family, she plans to buy a house near Baakiya's house. This was opposed by Gopinath for his selfish reasons. He deceives Raadhika into believing that the house owner pays no taxes. His plan is successful and Raadhika starts to believe him. After sometime Raadhika comes to know that the house is safe and the owner of the house is paying the tax correctly. Raadhika buys the house and does gruhapravesam (house warming). This angers Gopinath. He quarrels with Raadhika. This angers Mayura. Using as a chance, Rajesh (Raadhika's ex-husband) tells their daughter that Raadhika loves Gopinath. Mayura starts disliking Gopinath. Raadhika meets the lawyer with Gopinath and they eat together in a restaurant, where Ezhilan sees them. After in Baakiya's home Gopinath's old friend from Gujarat gives a Gujarathi dishes catering order. But this time Baakiya fails to cook the Gujarathi dishes and feels ashamed and Gopinath taunts her. After some while, Jennifer and Chezhiyan quarel and they get separate. A furious Baakiya taunts Chezhiyan and he realizes his mistake and Jennifer returns home. After few days Baakiya plans to begin a new business. She plans to do home food business. On the first day of giving food Baakiya meets an accident . In that her have leg's airline fracture. She needs one month rest. But her family doesn't leave her to take rest. While fighting with Rajesh Gopinath fell down but he gets some wounds but they were small. The family take care of Gopinath very much. This worries Jennifer and Ezhilan. After few days she had got ready (not full leg stable) to do foods and deliver it. The first order itself from Gopinath office for Raadhika. Baakiya doesn't know Gopinath office. She takes the food and go to office. An office staff has collected the food and gave to Gopinath. And says that his wife had came and delivered the food while Gopinath become frustrated. He lies to Raadhika that a client came I need to meet her immediately. He doesn't let Baakiya inside his cabin. However he manages. One day, Gopinath and Raadhika go shopping. At the same time Selvi (the maid in Baakiya's house) goes to the same store and spots Gopinath and Raadhika, however she does not know it is Raadhika. She goes home and tells Baakiya this. Baakiya does not believe her. Later, in the car, Baakiya sees a saree. Raadhika had accidentally left the saree Gopinath bought her in the car. Baakiya tells Gopinath that she found a saree. Gopinath somehow manages to lie to Baakia by lying to her that he bought the saree for her. The next day Gopi goes back to the same store but they say they don't have that saree in stock. Gopi gets a different saree for Raadhika and Raadhika finds out that it was not the saree Gopi brought for her. On the saree, it was the same pattern like on the saree Baakiya found.
