The Acorn is a family of newspapers serving communities in southern California. There are currently five editions of the Acorn Newspaper: The Acorn (covering Calabasas and Agoura Hills), Simi Valley Acorn, Moorpark Acorn, Camarillo Acorn and Thousand Oaks Acorn. The circulation for all Acorn newspapers is around 110,000. The owners are Jim and Lisa Rule of Newbury Park.[1]

Thousand Oaks Acorn[]

Thousand Oaks Acorn is a weekly newspaper based in Thousand Oaks, California. It covers Thousand Oaks proper, Newbury Park and the Thousand Oaks-portion of Westlake Village, CA. The circulation as of 2008 is 40,466.[2] It was established in May 1998.[3] Thousand Oaks Acorn was named the best source for local news by Thousand Oaks residents in a community survey undertaken by the city in 2009.[4] Thousand Oaks Acorn also received a first place award in the California Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspapers Contest in 2017.[5]

Camarillo Acorn[]

The Camarillo Acorn is an American weekly free newspaper which serves the city of Camarillo and surrounding Ventura County, California, published weekly on Friday.[6] With an estimated circulation of 26,890, it is edited by Daniel Wolowicz.[7]

The Camarillo Acorn was established in 2006 by Jim and Lisa Rule as an extension of their Acorn brand. In 2017, The Rules won executive of the year from the California News Publisher Association, and The Camarillo Acorn won 2nd place in the Editorial Comment category in its division of California's Better Newspapers Contest.[8][9]

Moorpark Acorn[]

The Moorpark Acorn is an American weekly newspaper which serves the city of Moorpark and surrounding Ventura County, California.[6] It is published weekly on Friday.[6] and has an estimated circulation of 11,795.[6] Like the Camarillo Acorn, it is edited by Daniel Wolowicz.[10]

In 2017, the Moorpark Acorn won 1st place in the Sports Action Photo and Photo Story categories in its division of California's Better Newspapers Contest.[9]

Simi Valley Acorn[]

The Simi valley version of the Acorn is edited by Darleen Principe.[11]

In 2017, the it won 1st place in the News Photo category in its division of California's Better Newspapers Contest.[9] It also won best sports feature photo.
