The Order of the Day (French: L'Ordre du jour) is a novel by the French writer Éric Vuillard.[1] In French it is described as a récit, while The Guardian described it as an historical essay with literary flourishes.[2] Benjamin Welton reviewed the book in The New York Journal of Books 24 Sept. 2018 as " bad history imbued with pop psychology and adorned with purple prose riddled with unnecessary diversions."[3]
The book received the Prix Goncourt.[4]
Content[]
The action of the book takes place during the time between the rise to power of the German Nazi party (chapter: A secret meeting),[5] and the Anschluss (chapter: Interview at the Berghof and The art of indecision).[6]
