The third season of the comedy-drama science fiction television series The Orville began filming in October 2019 but was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There were repeated restarts and further stoppages of production until the season ultimately completed filming in August 2021.[1] This season will see the series move from Fox to Hulu.[2]
As of August 2021 a release date has not been announced.

The season will have 11 episodes – fewer than the previous two seasons, but on average each episode will run 12 to 15 minutes longer.[4]
Production[]
Seth MacFarlane and Jon Cassar are the only directors for the third season.[5] Filming began in October 2019, but was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately half of the season was completed beforehand.[6][7] Production resumed in December 2020 but was suspended once again in January 2021 following a COVID surge.[8][9] Filming once again resumed in early February 2021 and wrapped in August.[10][11]
