Titagarh Wagons is a railway wagon manufacturer based out of Titagarh, West Bengal, India. The company manufactures coaches for the Indian Railways, bailey bridges, and mining equipment. A subsidiary, Titagarh Marines, operates in the shipbuilding industry.[1][2]
In 2015, Titagarh acquired a 90% stake in Italian rail equipment firm Firema Trasporti, renaming the firm to Titagarh Firema SPA.[3] By 2018, Titagarh held 100% stake of Firema Trasporti. Titagarh Firema will design metro rail coaches and manufacture them at its factories at Caserta, Spello and Tito.[4] The company acquired Kolkata-based Corporated Shipyard in 2012, merging it with its subsidiary Titagarh Marines to manufacture ships for the Indian Navy, and won its first defence contract in 2017.[5][6]
In 2019, Titagarh Firema was awarded the contract to supply 102 aluminium bodied metro rail coaches for the Pune Metro by Mahametro.[7] While 25 per cent of them would be manufactured at the Firema plant in Italy, the remaining would be manufactured at Mahametro's facility in Nagpur.[8] In March 2020, it was reported that Titagarh had suspended plan operations in Italy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[9]
