Tomer Kagan (born October 17, 1983)[citation needed] is an Israeli American[1] businessman and entrepreneur. He was the co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of search startup Quixey.[2]

Early life[]

Kagan was born in Haifa, Israel, and moved to Sunnyvale, California with his family at age four.[3] He holds a bachelor's degree in biology from University of California, Santa Cruz,[1] and claims to have paid his way through college by starting the T-shirt company Static Printing.[4][5] While in college, he founded and led a chapter of the Jewish fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi.[1] After graduating, he also founded the branding company Your Logo Here.[3]

Quixey[]

Kagan co-founded Quixey in 2009.[5] He met his co-founder Liron Shapira, as well as many Quixey employees, through the Jewish youth organization BBYO,[3] of which he is a "longstanding member".[1] In 2011, Forbes Magazine named him one of their "30 under 30" in technology for Quixey's success.[6] According to Kagan, his aim was for Quixey to compete directly with Google in the search market.[7]

Activities[]

Kagan has spoken at the Mobile World Congress and World Economic Forum.[1] He is a volunteer advisor for a chapter of Aleph Zadik Aleph, the fraternity branch of BBYO.[3] Kagan is also a board member of[3] and donor to[8] the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, an artificial intelligence nonprofit, and is a supporter of effective altruism.[1] He identifies as a "futurist", and works with the National Science Foundation on emerging technologies.[9][10]
