Turvasu Druhyu and Anu Dynasties

The Turvasu Druhyu and Anu Dynasties are legendary Indian dynasties recorded in ancient Sanskrit literature, especially the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. They would have ruled in the early first millennium BC, according to most modern historians, but in the late third millennium BC according to traditional Hindu dating.

Chandravansha (Lunar Dynasty)[]

King Pururavas was the founder of Chandravansha (Lunar Dynasty). He founded Lunar Dynasty in Treta Yuga. According to Ramayana and Mahabharata, King Pururavas was the son of Ila and Budha. The Important Personalities of Lunar Dynasty were Yayati, King Yadu, King Puru , Turvasu, Druhyu and Anu. According to Mahabharata, Pandavas and Kauravas were from the lineage of King Puru. Kartavirya Arjuna, Lord Krishna and Balarama were from the lineage of King Yadu. Yadu Vamsa known as Yadavas. Turvasu's descendants were Mleccha of Balochistan and Dravidas of South India. Druhyu's descendants were Gandhara, King Subala and Shakuni etc., Anu's descendants were Madras, Kekayas, King Ushinara and Shibi Chakravarthi etc.,

The Chandravanshi (Lunar Dynasty) Kings[]

The Chandravansha was founded in Treta Yuga.

  1. Pururavas (Contemporary to Ravana of Lanka and Suryavanshi King Vishwagashva)
  2. Aayu, Shrutayu, Satyayu, Raya, Jaya and Vijaya (Amavasu) were the sons of King Pururavas
  3. Nahusha, Kshatravrdhdha, Raji, Rabha and Anena were the sons of Aayu
  4. Yati, Yayati, Samyati, Ayati, Viyati and Kriti were the sons of King Nahusha.

Yayati (Contemporary to Demon King Vrishparva) had 2 wives and 5 sons. Yadu, Turvasu, Druhyu, Anu and King Puru were the 5 sons of Yayati.Devayani and Sharmishtha were the two wives of Yayati.

Turvasu's Dynasty[]

When his father Yayati was suffering from a curse, Turvasu refused to help him to relive from the curse. So, king Yayati cursed him that his dynasty will fall and will become Mlecchas. Having felt that he have done a great sin, Turvasu asked his father to forgive him. King Yayati became pleased and forgave him. Turvasu's descendants were Mlecchas of Balochistan. Pandya and Chola dynasties were based on Turvasu's dynasty.

Druhyu's Dynasty[]

Druhyu was very hurtful in nature as in Sanskrit Vyakaranam says "द्रुह्यति" means "Hurt". He was the first Mleccha King who proposed a culture which is devoid of Vedas. His descendants were Gandharas and Mlecchas etc., who were always do things which is against of dharma, in this dynasty Shakuni was born. During Lord Rama's reign, there was a war between Bharata and King Nagnajit(1) of Gandhara in which Nagnajit(1) was defeated. Taksha became the king of Takshasila (Present Taxila) and Pushkala became the ruler of Purushapura (Present Peshawar). After Ikshvaku Dynasty's reign, during Dvapara Yuga it came under the control of Nagnajit(2) of Druhyu's dynasty. Nagnajit(2) was the grandfather of Shakuni and Gandhari and father of King Subala.

Anu's Dynasty[]

When his father Yayati was suffering from a curse, Anu refused to help him to relive from the curse. So, king Yayati cursed him that he will also be suffering from old age like his father. Anu realized the crime he committed and asked his father to apologize. King Yayati became pleased and gave him a boon that his descendants will get salvation and their name and fame will not vanish in forthcoming Yugas. Anu's Descendants were King Ushinara, Shibi Chakravarthi, Kaikeyi in Ramayana, King Ashwapati of Kekaya, Savitri etc.,

Shibi's dynasty[]

Ushinara was given north-western side of India. Shibi was the son of King Ushinara and his descendants were Madras, Kekayas and Sauviras. He is the one who gave flesh for a hawk and an eagle.

  1. Shibi, Vara, Krmi, Dakshas were the sons of king Ushinara.
  2. Vrshadarha, Setuka, Madra and Kekaya were the sons of Shibi (Contemporary to Suryavanshi King Trishanku).
  3. Asvapati was the son of King Madra. Saivya was the daughter of Vrshadarbha who later became the wife of Harischandra. Sudhira was the son of Setuka.(Contemporary to Suryavanshi King Harischandra).
  4. Savitri was the daughter of Asvapati. She married Satyavan. Suvira was the son of Sudhira.
  5. Sauvira, the son of Suvira, was the founder of Sauvira Kingdom.

Bengal Kingdom[]

Titikshu (Son of Mahamana) was given eastern side of Bharatkhand. his descendants were Angas, Vangas, Kalingas, Pundras, Suhmas and Odhras etc.,
