The UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying tournament is an upcoming football competition that will be played from March 2023 to March 2024 to determine the 23 UEFA member men's national teams joining the automatically qualified host team Germany in the UEFA Euro 2024 final tournament. The competition will be linked with the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League, giving countries a secondary route to qualify for the final tournament.[1]

A total of 54 UEFA member associations will enter the qualifying process. The draw for the qualifying group stage will take place at the Festhalle in Frankfurt on 9 October 2022.[2]

Teams[]

All UEFA member associations are eligible to compete in the qualifying competition, with the host team Germany qualifying directly to the final tournament. The remaining 54 UEFA national teams will be divided into ten groups, with six of them containing five teams, and four of the groups containing six teams.[3]

As Russia were suspended from UEFA on 28 February 2022 due to their country's invasion of Ukraine, their participation remains in question.[4]

Format[]

The format will be similar to the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying competition, with the 54 UEFA member associations divided into ten groups, with six groups containing five teams and four containing six teams. A draw for the group stage will take place on 9 October 2022,[2] after conclusion of the league phase of the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League. The four UEFA Nations League Finals participants will be drawn into groups of five teams (so they can compete in the Nations League Finals in June 2023). The qualifying group stage will take place from March to November 2023, with the winners and runners-up from the ten groups qualifying directly to the final tournament.[6] The qualifiers will be played in a home-and-away in a round-robin format on double matchdays in March, June, September, October and November 2023.[3]

The remaining three teams will be decided through the play-offs, to be held in March 2024. Twelve teams will advance to the play-offs based on their performance in the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League, and will be split into three paths featuring two single-leg semi-finals and one single-leg final. The three path winners will qualify for the UEFA Euro 2024 final tournament.[3]
