Venkatramanan Anantha Nageswaran (born in 1963) is an Indian economist and the 18th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.[1] After completing doctorate in finance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst for his work on the empirical behavior of exchange rates, he served as a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council between 2019 and 2021.[2] He also worked as visiting professor at Krea University in Andhra Pradesh, professor for graduate students at the Singapore Management University and at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore & Indian Institute of Management Indore.[3][2]
Early life and education[]
Nageswaran completed his schooling education in Railway Mixed Higher School (RMHSS), Madurai. In 1983 Nageswaran graduated from American College, Madurai and in 1986 he obtained his postgraduate diploma in management from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 1985. He later earned Doctor of Philosophy in finance from Isenberg School of Management at University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1994.[4]
Career[]
Nageswaran has worked with Credit Suisse Group AG and Julius Baer Group in Switzerland and Singapore. He co-founded, The Takshashila Institution and launched the first impact investment fund of the Aavishkaar Group in 2001. He was the Dean of the IFMR Graduate School of Business and a visiting Professor of Economics at Krea University. He was also a part-time member of Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister from 2019 to 2021.[5]
On 28 January 2022, He was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor of Government of India succeeding Krishnamurthy Subramanian, who completed his three-year term in December 2021.[6][7]
