Viprachitti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Viprachitti is a demoniac personality.[1] As per Surya Puran he became the king of Danavas after his brother Puloman was killed by Indra. Viprachitti married Holika who was the sister of Hiranyakashipu and daughter of Diti. He was one of the 100 sons of Sage Kashyapa and Danu. He was the most powerful of the hundred.[2]

In another story mentioned in the Padma Purana, he married Simhika, the daughter of Hiranyakashipu and his son was Svarbhanu. His army defeated Devas under the guidance of Svarbhanu.

Aftermath[]

Viprachitti later incarnated as Jarasandha in the Mahabharata.
