The von Düben family (fɔn dy:ʹbən)[4] originally Düben, is a noble Swedish family introduced at the House of Nobility. The von Düben family is predominantly famous for its contributions in music, and for its ties to the late reigning House of Holstein-Gottorp.[5]
Gustaf Düben donated the so called Düben collection to Uppsala University Library.[6]
Overview[]
The first member of the family who was known to use the name "Düben" was Michael Düben (–1558). His grandson Andreas Düben came to Sweden in 1624, where he served as organist at the German Church in Stockholm.[7] The most prominent figures in the von Düben family are Emerentia von Düben, lady-in-waiting, the favourite of Ulrika Eleonora, Queen of Sweden and Gustaf Düben, organist and composer.
