Votorantim S.A. is a Brazilian family-owned company with 103 years of history. The company invest in lasting long-term businesses and the way of entrepreneurship includes, investing in companies from different segments, guided by responsibility, respect, and confidence in the future.[4]
History[]
It was founded in 1919 by , an engineer from Pernambuco. Its model of corporate governance assures the Ermírio Morais family strategic controlling positions in the executive board. The Brazilian businessman Antônio Ermírio de Moraes was the representative of the family in the company. Non-family professionals are at the head of the Business Units. The company was recognized by the IMD Business School and Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch Bank as the world's best family company in 2005.[citation needed]
In February 2010, the Votorantim Group purchased 21.2% of Portuguese cement company Cimpor (17.3% from French cement company Lafarge and 3.9% from Portuguese Cinveste) through its subsidiary Votorantim Cimentos. Brazilian company CSN and the conglomerate Camargo Corrêa were also attempting to buy Cimpor at the time.

Votorantim is a family-controlled company. The Votorantim Group is the only closed-capital Brazilian company rated by the three main rating agencies in the world: Standard & Poors, Fitch Ratings and Moody's.[citation needed]
