Walton (Bengali: ওয়ালটন) is a Bangladeshi conglomerate based in Gazipur, Bangladesh. It comprises numerous subsidiaries and affiliated businesses, most of them united under the Walton brand. The subsidiaries include Walton Motors, Walton Mobile, Walton Electronics, and Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited. Walton produces electronics, computers, motor vehicles, and telecommunications products. It is the first Bangladeshi brand to launch mobile phones in the market.[1][2]

History[]

S.M Nurul Alam Rezvi founded the Walton Group of Industries in 1977 as a trading company. Over the next three decades, the group diversified into steel, textiles, electronics, and automobiles. Walton entered into the steel industry in the late 1970s and the electronics and cars in the early 2000s; these areas would drive its subsequent growth. Since the 2000s, Walton has expanded towards electronics and automobiles, which became its most important income sources.

On 5 October 2017, Walton inaugurated their smartphone and tablet manufacturing plant named "Walton Digi-Tech Industries."

On 18 January 18, 2018, Walton launched their first computer and laptop manufacturing plant.

Walton, one of Bangladesh's leading business conglomerates, will spend $500,000 to establish Walton Corporation in the United States of America.In addition, for business growth and technology sourcing, the organization has agreed to open subsidiaries or liaison offices in India, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, and South Korea.[3]

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd[]

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited is an organization of the Walton Group. Work on its building at Chandra in Gazipur began in 2002 and was completed in 2006. Refrigerators, freezers, motorcycles, air conditioners and televisions are manufactured here. On September 23, 2020, Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited was listed on the stock exchange.[4]

Walton Digi-Tech Industries Ltd[]

Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited is located next to Walton Hi-Tech Industries. Mobile phones, laptops, computers and accessories are manufactured here.[5]

Since then, the assembly line has churned out 60 lakh handsets, of which 17 lakh were smartphones.

Currently, the plant's production capacity is 8 lakh smartphone and 20 lakh feature phone per month.[6]

Products[]

Walton distributes 4,500 types and models of electric, electronic, and automotive goods that it imports or manufactures[citation needed]. As of 2017, handsets it produces in China had captured 5% of Bangladesh's mobile phone market[citation needed]. In 2015, it manufactured 80% of the refrigerators, 30% of the televisions, and 6% of the motorcycles sold in Bangladesh[citation needed]. It also can manufacture 300,000 air conditioners a year[citation needed].

In April 2020, Walton announced plans to produce ventilators.[7]
