Wilfred Hugo van Soldt (12 September 1947 – 15 May 2021) was a Dutch Assyriologist.[1] He was professor emeritus at Leiden University. Van Soldt published in many journals, including in Nature in 1989 entitled "The earliest known solar eclipse record redated".[2][3] His dissertation was about Ugarit and its subjects, that he defended in 1986. His later research was about the Old Babylonian period (published in 1990 and 1993), Mesopotamian astronomy (published in 1995), Middle Babylonian (several articles) and Peripheral Akkadian, especially about the culture of the city of Ugarit (monographies 1991 and 2005).[1][4]
