Bill Tilden defeated Bill Johnston 4–6, 3–6, 6–2, 6–3, 6–4 in the final to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1922 U.S. National Championships.[2] It was Tilden's third U.S. Championships title and his fifth Grand Slam title overall
