The 2007 Rally Ireland (1st Rally Ireland), 15th round of 2007 World Rally Championship, was run on November 15 - November 18. It took place over eight counties on both sides of the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Event started in Stormont, Belfast and finished in Mullaghmore, County Sligo.
Report[]
The rally began with the first special stage in front of Stormont Castle in Belfast, which Marcus Grönholm won on Thursday evening. But the accident took its course the very next day. In the fourth special stage, Grönholm hit a wall hard and had to be taken to the hospital together with co-driver Timo Rautiainen as a precaution. Both remained unhurt, but that was the end of the rally for the duo.
Sébastien Loeb took his chance in Ireland and took a big step towards his fourth Drivers' World Championship title. The Citroën driver took the lead again in the drivers' standings. His advantage over his rival Grönholm, who retired on Friday after a serious accident, was six points before the last round of the world championship. Mikko Hirvonen finished fourth and thus secured the second manufacturers' world championship title in a row for the Ford team.
Jari-Matti Latvala was third to take his first WRC podium. Latvala edged out Hirvonen from third place on Friday. He was able to hold this position to the finish, although he briefly went off the road on Saturday. That cost Latvala a bit of time, but he had built up enough of an advantage beforehand to remain third.
