The 2021 Chinese Super League, officially known as the 2021 Ping An Chinese Football Association Super League (Chinese: 2021中国平安中国足球协会超级联赛) for sponsorship reasons, is the 18th season since the establishment of the Chinese Super League. The league title sponsor is Ping An Insurance.[1][2]

Jiangsu were the defending champions before they ceased operation on 28 February 2021 and disqualified by Chinese Football Association on 29 March 2021.[3]

Ahead of the 2021 season, the Chinese Football Association ordered all clubs to eliminate any corporate references in their names.[4]

  • Guangzhou R&F changed their name to Guangzhou City in December 2020.[5]
  • Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao changed their name to Guangzhou in January 2021.[6]
  • Shandong Luneng Taishan changed their name to Shandong Taishan in January 2021.[7]
  • Shanghai SIPG changed their name to Shanghai Port in January 2021.[8]
  • Shijiazhuang Ever Bright F.C. moved to Cangzhou and changed their name to Cangzhou Mighty Lions in January 2021.[9]
  • Tianjin TEDA changed their name to Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in January 2021.[10]
  • Qingdao Huanghai changed their name to Qingdao in February 2021.[11]
  • Shanghai Greenland Shenhua changed their name to Shanghai Shenhua in February 2021.[12]
  • Hebei China Fortune changed their name to Hebei in February 2021.[13]
  • Wuhan Zall changed their name to Wuhan in February 2021.[14]
  • Henan Jianye changed their name to Henan Songshan Longmen in February 2021.[15]
  • Chongqing Dangdai Lifan changed their name to Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic in March 2021.[16]
  • Beijing Sinobo Guoan changed their name to Beijing Guoan in March 2021.[17]
  • Jiangsu Suning changed their name to Jiangsu on 1 February 2021,[18] before their dissolution on 28 February 2021.[19]

Rule changes[]

The CFA imposed a salary cap on the Super League in December 2020, taking effect with the 2021 season. Each club's total player wages are capped at ¥600 million, with a separate limit of €10 million for foreign players. Individual player salaries are also capped, at ¥5 million before tax for Chinese players, and €3 million for foreign players.[20]
